The Struggle Is Real: FEAR

One night I remember laying in my bed sleeping. I don't dream often but this night I happen to have a dream. My dream was of me walking through some sort of neighborhood and when I got to this one particular corner there were two dogs near the corner. Both of the dogs were tied to leashes and their leashes were securely tied to something else to ensure that the dogs would not run loose. As I walked past the first dog, the first dog didn't do anything but look at me, as I walked past the second dog the second dog barked at me intensely. It was as if this dog was ready to attack me. I remember the second dog running towards me and although it was on a secured leash that should have kept the dog back, this dog ran very close to me while barking loudly, and it jumped up towards me as if it were going to bite me. I was absolutely horrified and scared, I really thought the dog was going to bite me. Just before the dog jumped at me with its teeth ready to bite, I quickly woke up from my dream huffing with my pulse beating so fast you would have thought I had just wrapped up a workout session. Since I do not dream often, I went back and forth wondering what the dream could have meant and why I had dreamt the dream.

Instead of waking up praying, I remember Googling “dog attacking me in dream” and reading about what the dream could have possibly meant. After everything I read online, I concluded that this dream had to mean that I would be attacked by an enemy very soon. Later on in the day, I spoke with a friend of mine and told them about this bizarre dream. Once I finished telling the story, my friend asked me if in the dream the dog had actually bit me. I told her no but that was only because I had woken up before the dog could. My friend then kind of laughed and  informed me that the dream did not seem bizarre at all. She told me that she believed the dream was God’s way of letting me know that as I progress, no matter how fearful something may seem, I have nothing to fear because God’s got me covered.

How many of you have ever struggled with fear? Fear of the unknown, fear of procrastination, fear of failure, fear of pain, fear of your future, fear of your past, fear of losing everything, fear of embarrassment, etc? For me, fear has been an ongoing matter that I have personally struggled with in different circumstances and situations throughout life.

As we get ready to go through the month of August, I believe that God wants for everyone reading this blog to recognize that there is no need to fear anything. Just as my friend reassured me, I am here to reassure you, God’s got you covered. Whenever you are afraid, or feel fearful, put your trust in God (Psalm 56:3 NIV).

In the Bible, there is this one scripture, 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV) that states, “for the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline”.

As you progress throughout the month, know that the Holy Spirit dwells within you and will always help you overcome any fear you may encounter along the way. Don't flinch at fear, but instead, walk with radiant confidence right past your fears knowing that because you are a child of the most high King, fear is simply a tactic by satin meant to try and intimidate you so you don't succeed or may easily become distracted. Through the Holy Spirit, God grants us the power to live a bold and courageous life fearing nothing but God himself, remember that fear is a liar. If you ever forget this and find yourself letting thoughts of fear invade your mind, remember that one of the best ways to face fear is through prayer (
Philippians 4:6 NIV). Prayer will allow you to reconnect with God so that you may be reminded of the divine protection that has already been placed over your life and ask for whatever it is you may need to overcome fear.

Have you ever heard of the saying "new level, new devil"? It means that every time God elevates you, the devil will try to attack you in a new way. No matter what angle of fear the devil tries to attack you from this month, do not be fooled, the power to prevail over fear has already been instilled within you.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,

I come to you today with a desire on my heart to let you know that I love you and I need you. It is a privilege to be able to slip into your presence giving you glory, honor and praise for being the holy God that you are. Thank you for being my redeemer, my healer, my intercessor and my protector. I pray that you cleanse and deliver me from any means of fear right now in the name of Jesus (Psalm 34:4 NIV). I pray for the ability to operate through the month of August with a fearless attitude knowing that through your Holy Spirit that dwells within you will never leave my side and that I have automatically been equipped with dynamic power to overcome all fear (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV & Isaiah 41:10 NIV). Pull me in closer and continue to mold me into the person you want me to be God. As I advance higher, I pray that the spirit of fear flees from my presence knowing that I have divine protection in you.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
