Inheritance

As I sat in my room intentionally seeking a word from God to share with my listeners for 2021, I came across a scripture in Lamentations 3:24 NLT that said “I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!’” When I read the scripture, the word inheritance immediately resonated with my spirit. I reached out to ask a few people what came to mind when they heard the word inheritance, and they responded; “money, a financial blessing, traits from a family member passed down, property, legacy, trusts, etc”.

Inheritance as many of us may know it across the world is material possessions that are passed down to someone else that an individual leaves once they die. According to CNN Money, the New York Times, and so many other resources, there are billions of dollars in unclaimed assets across the world. Federal agencies have reported up to 58 billion dollars worth of bank accounts, insurance policies, pension benefits, and other abandoned holdings that have simply been forgotten.

The more I reflected on the word inheritance, the more it made sense to me. This month, I believe that God wants to remind every listener that you have an inheritance and in 2021 you need to claim it and walk in it. To those of you who may be wondering, Delana, what inheritance are you referring to and how do I proceed to claim it immediately? I want to set the record straight, there’s a scripture in the bible that says “Life is not about having a lot of material possessions” (Luke 12:15 GW). You see, the type of inheritance that I’m referring to is not about land, money, and material possessions.

I am referring to your spiritual inheritance. Ephesians 1:3 ESV says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.” So because we are in Christ, the bible tells us that we’ve been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Ephesians 1:11 NLT goes on to say “Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for He chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to His plan.” This means that as believers in Jesus Christ, we are privileged to receive a spiritual inheritance from God that is greater than any sort of material inheritance we could ever receive. Our spiritual inheritance can never perish, spoil or fade because this inheritance is kept in heaven for us (1 Peter 1:4 NIV). Not recognizing or claiming our spiritual inheritance is like a person living paycheck-to-paycheck struggling who has already inherited trillions of dollars that their father left them. They never have to financially struggle again in life if they simply step up to claim their inheritance.

This month I want to reveal to you and remind you of a few of the things that are in our inheritance. In our inheritance lies the everlasting love of Christ. In our inheritance lies salvation and freedom through God’s one and only son Jesus. In our inheritance lies God’s wisdom (Proverbs 2:6 NIV). In our inheritance lies direction (Psalm 32:8 GW). In our inheritance lies protection (2 Thessalonians 3:3 NIV). In our inheritance lies promises rooted in the word. In our inheritance lies access to power that enables us to slay giants and crush fierce lions and serpents under our feet (Psalms 91:13 NLT). In our inheritance lies unmerited favor (Ephesians 2:8 NIV). In our inheritance lies dominion and authority. In our inheritance lies our salt and light for the world (Matthew 5:13-14 NIV).

We have been lavished with the richness of a divine inheritance that our Father has left us. A promise sealed for the life of His believers, and all we have to do is claim it. Our eternal prosperity, advantage, and benefits are connected to our inheritance. If you desire to have life more abundantly this year, in 2021 walk in your Godly inheritance.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the grace you’ve given us to see a new year. Thank you for the opportunity to be in your presence today Lord. Thank you for your endless love. Thank you for being the author and the finisher. Thank you for predestining us with access to a spiritual inheritance that will endure through time. God I pray that as we walk in our spiritual inheritance that we leave spiritual legacies behind that will take root in the hearts, and minds of our families, friends, loved ones, and those you have assigned us to encounter throughout our lives. Lord, you alone are our inheritance, our cup of blessing. You guard all that is ours (Psalm 16:5 NLT), and you supply all our needs according to your riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19 NKJV). Thank you for being our rich inheritance Father. Search the depths of our minds and begin to refine every area that you desire to be divinely aligned with you so that we may always be able to recognize and comprehend the benefits of our spiritual inheritance. Let this be the day that you strip away our scarce living habits of our past so that we claim our spiritual inheritance and may boldly walk in it throughout 2021. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
